And what kind of material to have on hand to learn French in the car
So, even though that time in the car, alone, is the perfect time to work on your Beyoncé impression, or your powerful opera voice.
It’s also a time you could use to learn French.
In fact, that’s what I call a ‘learning opportunity time’.
And your daily life is probably full of those little moments, when you’re doing something and your brain is free to learn.
Like when you are cutting the carrots for your soup, or mixing your brownie batter, or brushing your teeth, or scrubbing the floor.
I mean, your brain is not ENTIRELY free.
I advise you still look at what you are doing when you cut the carrots.
Please cut you carrots consciously.
But you could still use this time.
In fact, there are 4 things you could do while you are in the car, or cutting your carrots that are going to improve your French.

Listening to podcasts in French in the car
Ok, I’m cheating, there’s actually three ways you can use podcasts. For which I have a list for you here.
Â
So it’s a three-in-one
Â
Podcasts about French comes in three flavours.
Â
You have the learning podcast.
Â
Where you learn how to get your French to the next level.
Â
And the lesson kind of podcast.
Â
Where you learn something new about French. Vocabulary, grammar,…
Â
And then you have the native podcast.
Â
The native podcast is a podcast entirely in French, made for natives.
Â
If you are a beginners, this might be too hard for you right now, but it’s the goal you are trying to reach: being able to understand those podcasts.
Â
So during those learning opportunity times, start listening to a French podcast.
Practice your French in the car
Listening is cool and all, but you know it, you need to SPEAK too.
Â
And those moments you are driving around, or scrubbing and being bored to death, you could use to practice.
Â
Practice? With what? My toilet brush?
Â
Yep.
Â
I’m not even kidding, you could totally just recite words you know, or challenge yourself to remember 20 French words that start with a B, or even act like if you were introducing yourself to someone in French.
Â
This works especially well in your car.
Â
Pretend you are speaking with someone on the phone.
Â
Or better yet, if you have a French friend, call them and ask to speak with them for 10 minutes.
Â
Ask about their day, what they have eaten, tell them what happened at work today…
Â
Anything.
Audio-courses / listen to courses
Another big thing you could do is listen to audio courses.
Â
You know when you purchase a big program like Pimsleur you often get a CD or mp3 files to train yourself with.
Â
Now is the time to use them.
Â
Repeat what they want you to repeat, work on your French pronunciation.
Â
You could totally do that with my sentence packs, for example – Show Off your French to your Friends, or 99 ok-to-use French slang sentence.
Â
Both are available on the school.
How to learn French in the car? Well by singing of course!
Fourth and final idea to learn French in the car is KARAOKE.
Â
Ok, no Beyoncé.
Â
Because she doesn’t sing in French.
Â
But we have plenty of nice French music, in plenty of different styles.
Â
Have a listen here. You’ll see!
Â
I even created a playlist for you there.
Â
Music is actually a good way to work on your pronunciation, because you get to hear the sounds very clearly.
Â
Makes them memorable as well.
Â
And by singing you work on your pronunciation.
So, during those learning opportunity times, put on some French music, or a French podcast, or listen to an audio course, or talk to yourself.
Those things you are going to do while turning left on the next road, or cutting your carrots are actually very valuable for your French learning.
