French Christmas movies 🎄to watch before the end of the year

French christmas movies
Let’s talk about French Christmas movies.

There’s a not a lot of them. But some are really worth watching!

They get you into what a French Christmas looks like.

Food, culture and all.

But don’t expect a Hollywood production type of story.

We’re not into the joyful, happy ending, hopeful and Christmas spirit kind.

All of those movies are sad, funny, miserable,  mysterious,…

Enjoy 😉

Joyeux Noël (2005)

December 1914, German, French and British are fighting. It’s the First World War.

But it’s also Christmas, and it’s time to make peace. Even if only for a few hours.

This movie is beautiful. Truly. I cried. (Although I cry easily in front of movies, cute puppies and stuff… Don’t judge.)

Also, a perfect movie for the future multilingual in you, since it’s in French, English and German.

Plus, it’s based on true fact. So History geeks, this is for you.

Le Père Noël est une ordure (1982)

When you’re sad and lonely, in need to speak to a friend, you can always call ’SOS-détresse-amitié’.

And Christmas Eve is always their busiest night.

Although, this year might not be what they expected it to be…

This is the third movie of Le Splendid, a group of French actors (all of them are now super famous in France).

It’s a cult comedy. And it runs on TV every year since it was released in the 80’s.

Les Bronzés font du ski (1979)

Another Splendid film. Same actors, different characters, different story.

This particular movie is the second of a series called ‘Les Bronzés’ (the tanned).

Translated in English as ‘French Fried Vacations’, so you might find it under this name.

A group of friends decided to spend their holidays in the mountains, where some of them work.

Cult moment to remember – ‘Etoiles des neiiiigessss’

8 Femmes (2002)

Everyone is coming back home for Christmas. Gaby, Augustine, Mamy, Pierette, Suzon, Catherine, Madame Chanel, Louise,… Everyone is here. Except Monsieur.

Because he’s dead in his room.

Told you French Christmas movies weren’t hopefully joyful.

In Huit Femmes, you’ll meet the jewel of French actresses.
