How I realised I wasn't going to speak English thanks to school
Just like you, I had a copious amount of language classes at school. Yet, when I decided to register for an undergrad in Dublin – I realised, not only I wasn’t capable of communicating but life in Ireland was going to be… complicated!
In fact, school had taught me to perform grammar exercices, to recite vocabulary lists, and use the most standard, bland English possible.
Needless to say, nothing to impress the Irish with and certainly nothing to have deep debates about Irish history with my fellow classmates.
I had to do something….
How I found the secrets to language learning
I’m a researcher at heart. So I turned to the internet. And what I learned there was… mind-blowing!
People were speaking 10 languages! And learning more, and more. And everything seemed so easy for them. Far from the grammar based curriculum I had experienced so far…
The deeper I went, the further I was amazed. Why weren’t there more people talking about this?
what I did with this information
So I re-learned English.
Had a wonderful two years in Dublin, a year in Belfast, and am now teaching English thanks to this.
I then took all this experience and applied it to French learning. That’s how Just French It was born. That’s why I’m here telling you my story.
